Skelligs Retreat in 2025: An Update from Ballingskelligs

4 April 2025

Hello to all of our neighbours, partners and potential visitors, as we welcome Spring and share what is set to be an incredibly exciting year for Skelligs Retreat.

Our ethos has always been to keep people updated throughout the planning, design and now construction stages of the Retreat’s progress. And with just a few months until the doors open to our first guests, we’re pleased to be able to bring you up to speed once again.

Construction is progressing well, with good progress against ambitious targets. The team on site are doing exceptionally well despite the challenging conditions, which we always knew would mean a complex build. The location, landscape and a shortage of skilled resource in the local area all bring inevitable challenges, but everything is moving forward in line with our schedule thanks to the efforts of our team on site, and we’re expecting construction work to be finished in Summer 2025 as planned.

Once the buildings are complete, our focus will turn to welcoming the first guests to Skelligs Retreat, using the second half of 2025 to test our offering with a range of visitor groups including families, friends and corporate guests.

We’ll be using valuable feedback from visitors, employees, partners and suppliers over this time to make sure that we build an experience we can be proud of, before we open fully in January 2026 – listening to comments, refining the packages and developing the service standards needed to ensure a real high-quality, one-of-a-kind retreat in our unique surroundings.

Behind the scenes

Of course, we’ve not just been moving forwards with construction as we seek to develop Skellig Retreat’s brand and offering.

After starting with a one-page ‘holding’ website, we’ve now launched the new site which provides more information about the retreat and retreat offerings, and more detail about accommodation and food choices.

We’re delighted to say that we’ve employed our first full time employee too – Retreat Manager Veronica is from Kerry, knows this part of the world incredibly well and has over 20 years’ experience working in Wellness and at five-star hotels in Kerry. She lives a healthy lifestyle and is already working hard to develop our wellbeing facilities, getting involved with yoga, nutrition and more.

Veronica’s role will include planning activities on the retreat and in the local area, offering a personal service to all our guests to ensure that when they stay all of their needs are dealt with professionally and any issues are resolved swiftly. We’re delighted to welcome Veronica on board as we ramp up towards the Summer.
