THE JOURNEY CONTINUES
Work is already well underway at Skelligs Retreat and now we’re delighted to have received detailed planning consent to continue our exciting vision for this corner of County Kerry.
A unique space for peaceful harmony
Our wellness retreat will be situated on a farm in the remote townland of Allagheemore, on the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry.
Allagheemore, an anglicised form of Alachaī Mór which translates as ‘big, rocky field’,
is flanked entirely by mountains and sea, where for centuries local people survived on fishing, land and livestock farming.
The mountains, lakes and coasts of County Kerry have been the picture-postcard image of Ireland for centuries, taking visitors back to times gone by with a unique combination of traditional Irish towns and breathtaking ocean views.
Rebirth of the farm, regeneration of the soul
The farm is owned by the fifth generation of the Shea/O’Shea family, descendants of Michael and Ellen O’Shea, who were the first recorded tenants of the original house and farm buildings which still occupy the site today.
The vision for The Skelligs Retreat and subsequent investment in the project has been driven by the remaining members of the O’Shea family, who have roots all over the world but still consider Allagheemore as their spiritual home.
A place of discovery and perspective
The Skelligs Retreat sits on the Skelligs Ring, which itself is connected to the famous Ring of Kerry, a 95-mile loop that showcases the best of the stunning Atlantic views and the tranquillity of Killarney National Park, together with the famous ‘craic’ of some of Ireland’s oldest pubs. Not forgetting The Skelligs themselves of course, the famous rocks which dominate the view from the mainland.
This is an area where land meets sea to deliver true healing power; where life has been shaped by the strength, power and energy of the Atlantic Ocean, creating a connection between people and their surroundings.
The age-old holy trails, sacred sites, Irish language and
sense of tranquillity that exist harmoniously with all the forces of the Wild Atlantic Way have a transcendent power that is hard to resist – one that can truly reinvigorate the soul.
